When cavities are found in your teeth they need to be
repaired with fillings. The area in your mouth with the
cavity will be numbed with a local anesthetic and the
decayed portion of the tooth will be removed, the
remaining tooth will be cleaned and prepared for a filling.

The type of fillings that are used at Dixon Creek Dental
are composite tooth colored fillings. There are two very
good reasons for using composite fillings over silver
(amalgam) fillings.

Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known.
Amalgam fillings are made of nearly 50% mercury,
studies have shown that mercury can leach from set
amalgam, entering the body.

Composite fillings actually "stick" to the tooth surface both
chemically and mechanically, therefore allowing for a much
more conservative cavity preparation. As an added bonus,
composite fillings are tooth colored and come in a variety of
shades to match all colors of teeth.
